The China Faculty Seminar is a Benedictine University global learning initiative in the context of campus-wide internationalization initiatives designed to meet the challenges of a globalized twenty-first century. BenU faculty have the opportunity to participate in seminars and to spend time at universities abroad. For instance, in 2011-2012, 12 faculty members participated in a semester-long, interdisciplinary Cuba Seminar held on campus, and then traveled to Cuba for a 10-day experience abroad.
This year, after participating in a semester-long seminar surveying the history and culture of China, 13 faculty will be traveling to Beijing and Xi’an, and visiting several universities in the city of Dalian as part of a 7-day residency in Dalian. Another faculty seminar participant will be traveling to Dalian and the city of Shenyang, where we have partner campuses. And yet another member of our faculty, Dr. Vincent Gaddis, will be spending a month of his summer in Vietnam.
This collective blog is a way to archive our intellectual journeys and to share our on-the-ground experiences with you.
